About the Digital Collections

The Smyth County Museum & Historical Society’s Digital Collections serve as a public database of items from our archives and artifact collections. This section allows visitors to explore what we preserve—from historic photographs and documents to genealogical materials and local artifacts.

While most items listed here do not yet have full digital versions viewable online, each record provides helpful details about the object’s content and context. All materials are freely available for in-person viewing at the museum.

In the near future, we’ll introduce an online request system that will allow visitors to order digital or physical copies of select documents and photographs.

A limited number of collections are available in full digital form, including a growing section dedicated to Smyth County’s Black history and other curated topics highlighting our community’s diverse heritage.
